Challenge

Open Country Dairy (OCD) required a turnkey solution for a new FMC line at their site in Awarua. We have built FMC lines in the past for other dairy suppliers, so the real challenge with the project was the extremely short build time. Because of the compressed timeline, the filling equipment (normally supplied by SEE Liquibox) could not be supplied. We worked with Liquibox to build the filler under licence to allow the project to meet its deliverables. We also worked closely with the OCD team to customise and adapt the line design through the factory’s build process.

Solution

We provided the complete packing line for OCD comprising of a twin head BIB Filler, Combining shuttle, Bag Check Weigh, Topload RSC Casepacker, Metal Detect, Palletiser, Pallet Wrapper and all connecting conveyors. The twin head filler located in the redline hygiene area produced six bags per minute per head, while the shuttle merged the bags into one feed to the casepacker where they are top loaded into a tape erected and closed case. Cases leaving the packer are batch and date coded, metal detected, and then fed into the palletiser. Pallets are created for freezing, complete with slip sheets and freezer spacers; the spacers allow airflow around all sides of the cases to increase airflow and improve the freezing efficiency. The wrapper utilises a stripping function where strips of wrap are used instead of a full web, this allows airflow into and around all cases on the pallet. From concept to completion, our team once again delivered a solution on time and to specification.
