Challenge
Lemnos had been hand-packing into shelf-ready cases before the RML machine and running the cases through a Top and Bottom taper. This caused two headaches for Lemnos, taped shelf-ready cases look second rate on the supermarket shelf which affects the brand and the labour availability and cost to pack the cases at the rates required manually.
Solution
RML designed and built a customised D105 Case Packer, which is a sideload RSC packer. The infeed conveying system combines two thermoformed lines into one infeed for the case packer. The product is accelerated into a single belt race track which orientates the product prior to being side-shifted into a collation area. The delta robot gives the flexibility for product adjustment and the speed requirements for this machine.
The packer receives Thermoformed packs of Halloumi, Feta and Paneer type cheeses in a range of 100g-250g portions at a rate of up to 120 cheeses per minute. Given that the cases running through the machine were Shelf Ready, we had to provide Lemnos with a system capable of ensuring that cases were glue erected and closed.
